South East Texas Regional Planning Commission Announces Partnership with Leadership Southeast Texas. The strategic partnership aims to boost sustainable leadership development.
The mission of Leadership Southeast Texas (LSET) is to promote better understanding of the nine counties that comprise Southeast Texas, namely Chambers, Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Newton, Orange, Tyler, and the Bolivar Peninsula of Galveston County. Each class of LSET leaders from all sections of the region learns about complex issues that face our area. LSET programs examine the strengths, weaknesses, obstacles, and opportunities for economic development, regional unity, and quality of life.
LSET was chartered in 1992 through the efforts of regional business leaders, chambers of commerce, municipal and county governments, and the 20th Anniversary Task Force of Leadership Beaumont. From 1992 to July 2007, LSET was a program of the Partnership of Southeast Texas (POST). From 1992 – 1998, LSET class members represented the “Golden Triangle” area – Hardin, Orange and Jefferson Counties. The LSET Class of 1999 (September 1998 – May 1999) was the first class after LSET’s expansion into the nine-county area of Southeast Texas.
The mission of the Youth Leadership Southeast Texas (Y-LSET) Program is to provide sustainable development of leadership skills in diverse student populations by promoting an understanding between students’ school and regional experiences, coupled with a call to civic action.
